Control Union Malaysia was honoured to support Hari Cuci Malaysia (HCM) 2026 as a strategic partner and participant on 26 September 2026. The nationwide initiative brought together communities, schools, government agencies, local authorities, businesses and NGOs to promote a cleaner Malaysia and strengthen collective responsibility for waste management.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), as reported by Bernama, HCM 2026 involved 272,390 participants across 469 locations. A total of 8,010.19 tonnes of solid waste and 89,221.22 kilograms of recyclables were collected. The initiative also recorded two Malaysia Book of Records entries for participation and recyclables collected in a single day.

During the event, Control Union Malaysia delivered an awareness talk on recycling and the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) Initiatives, highlighting how organisations can extend the impact of a national clean-up through consistent waste segregation, recycling and recovery. We were also honoured to receive recognition from KPKT at the strategic partner appreciation ceremony.

The discussions reflected the purpose of the ZWTL Initiatives: helping organisations take responsibility for their waste and reduce landfill disposal by at least 75%. The ZWTL Pledge was launched at the Sustainable Action Conference (SAC) 2025 in October 2025, with ten Malaysian companies making commitments supported by ecosystem partners providing collection, recycling and recovery solutions.

At the launch of the ZWTL Pledge, Control Union Malaysia’s Managing Director, Supun Nigamuni, highlighted the importance of industry collaboration:

“By working hand-in-hand with industry leaders and ecosystem partners, we’re accelerating the shift from waste management to resource management, building a more resilient and circular Malaysia.”

— Supun Nigamuni, Managing Director, Control Union Malaysia, at SAC 2025

The ZWTL Initiatives bring together four integrated pillars: the ZWTL Pledge, awareness and capacity building, a digital waste management platform, and independent verification. Together, these support organisations in setting diversion targets, training employees, tracking monthly waste data and assessing performance through independent verification.

Control Union Malaysia remains committed to supporting organisations through awareness, practical waste management tools and independent verification. Through the ZWTL Initiatives, we help businesses measure their progress and demonstrate credible outcomes that contribute to a more circular Malaysia.

Organisations interested in taking the next step are invited to join the ZWTL Pledge Ceremony on 21 October 2026 at the Sustainable Action Conference 2026, at The Magellan Sutera Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Organisations can begin by understanding their waste streams, setting diversion targets, segregating at source and tracking progress each month.
