KOTA KINABALU, 22 OCTOBER 2026 – Ten organisations from diverse industries reaffirmed their commitment to responsible waste management and circular economy practices through the Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) Pledge Ceremony, a key initiative of the Sustainable Action Conference 2026 (SAC 4.0), organised by Control Union Malaysia.

Held on 21 October 2026 at The Magellan Sutera Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the ceremony brought together industry leaders, businesses and sustainability advocates in a collective commitment to reducing landfill dependency and accelerating the transition towards a more resource-efficient and circular economy.

The ZWTL initiative challenges participating organisations to achieve at least 75% waste diversion from landfills within the first 12 months, encouraging the adoption of responsible waste management practices, waste segregation, recycling, resource recovery and circular solutions. The commitment aligns with Malaysia’s Circular Economy Blueprint for Solid Waste 2025–2035, which seeks to strengthen resource efficiency, reduce waste generation and advance sustainable waste management across the country.

In a strong demonstration of corporate leadership and cross-industry collaboration, ten organisations formally pledged their commitment to the Zero Waste to Landfill initiative, including:

  1. Corsair Group International
  2. FatHopes Energy Sdn Bhd
  3. Mentari Alam Eko (M) Sdn Bhd
  4. Beta Maju Sdn Bhd
  5. Forest Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd
  6. Integrated PDP Sdn. Bhd.
  7. Powerco Letrik Usaha (KK) Sdn. Bhd.
  8. QI Services (M) Sdn Bhd
  9. Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC)
  10. Shangri-La Rasa Ria Kota Kinabalu

Through the ZWTL pledge, participating organisations are encouraged to assess their waste generation, strengthen waste segregation at source, identify opportunities for material recovery and implement practical strategies to progressively reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills. The initiative places emphasis on measurable progress, accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring that sustainability commitments translate into meaningful operational changes.

Beyond the pledge itself, the initiative also highlights the importance of collaboration across the waste management value chain. By connecting businesses with relevant industry stakeholders and resource recovery solutions, ZWTL seeks to encourage greater adoption of circular practices, reduce environmental impacts and strengthen the long-term resilience of participating organisations.

Organised by Control Union Malaysia with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, SAC 2026 was held under the theme “Sustainability as the New Economic Advantage”, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, sustainability practitioners and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and accelerate sustainable development.

The ZWTL initiative reinforces the conference’s broader mission of translating sustainability ambitions into measurable outcomes. By encouraging organisations to move beyond commitments towards practical implementation, SAC 2026 continues to promote responsible resource management, operational efficiency and circular economy innovation as essential drivers of long-term environmental and economic resilience.

As SAC 2026 concluded its fourth edition in Sabah, the participation of these ten organisations marked another step towards building a more sustainable and waste-resilient future. Their collective commitment demonstrates how industry collaboration and responsible business practices can drive meaningful progress towards reducing landfill dependency and advancing Malaysia’s circular economy aspirations.
