Control Union Malaysia and Corsair Group International Join Forces to Strengthen Plastic Credit Integrity and Advance Circularity
KOTA KINABALU, 22 OCTOBER 2026 — Control Union (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and Corsair Group International have announced a strategic collaboration to strengthen the credibility of plastic credit programmes, improve accountability for plastic waste recovery and support businesses in delivering measurable circular economy outcomes. The collaboration was announced in conjunction with the Sustainable Action Conference 2026 (SAC 4.0) in Sabah.
Building on Corsair’s existing Plasticwaste Removal Standard and CSR Plastic Credit Programme, the organisations will work to enhance programme requirements and establish stronger safeguards for how plastic waste recovery is documented, quantified and recognised. The initiative aims to improve transparency from waste collection and processing through to the issuance, transfer and retirement of plastic credits, with controls designed to address double counting and unsupported environmental claims.
An important component will be the development of robust validation, verification and assurance arrangements. Control Union will bring its technical experience in independent assessment and sustainability assurance to support credible evidence of plastic recovery and recycling outcomes, subject to applicable independence and impartiality requirements.
Mr. Supun Nigamuni, Managing Director of Control Union Malaysia, said:
“Plastic credits can only build market confidence when they are supported by credible evidence, transparent traceability and robust controls against double counting. Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen the integrity of Corsair’s programme, establish appropriate independent verification arrangements and help businesses make responsible, substantiated environmental claims. By linking these efforts with our Zero Waste to Landfill ecosystem, we also see an opportunity to turn plastic recovery and circularity commitments into measurable outcomes.”
The collaboration will also develop clearer guidance for businesses purchasing or using plastic credits, including how environmental benefits are substantiated and communicated. This will take account of relevant emerging requirements for environmental claims, including considerations under the European Union’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EmpCo) framework, without implying that plastic credits automatically establish regulatory compliance or justify claims of plastic neutrality.
Mr. Jussi Veikko Saloranta, Chairman of the Board, Corsair Group International, said:
“Our ambition is to scale plastic waste recovery through a programme that businesses can trust and participate in with confidence. Working with Control Union will help us further strengthen our Plastic Credit Programme, from traceability and verification to the way environmental benefits are documented and communicated. Together, we want to make it easier for companies to support responsible plastic recovery and advance practical circular economy solutions.”
Beyond plastic credits, Corsair is expected to participate in Control Union’s Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) ecosystem, supporting eligible waste collection, recycling and diversion activities. Corsair and agreed clients will also be able to access the ZWTL Digital Platform to strengthen waste-data tracking, supporting evidence, traceability and reporting. Together, these capabilities are intended to help organisations monitor their waste-management performance and make better-informed circularity decisions.
With an international programme scope, the partnership is intended to create a more transparent and verifiable pathway for businesses to support plastic waste recovery, while encouraging investment and participation in responsible waste management solutions. Both organisations will also explore joint industry engagement and market-development opportunities.
The announcement at SAC 4.0 reflects the conference’s theme, “Sustainability as the New Economic Advantage”, by demonstrating how technical assurance, digital traceability and industry collaboration can help turn circular economy commitments into practical, measurable action.
