CU Malaysia Contributes to Industry Dialogue at APGH 2026, Emphasising the Role of Certification in Green Hydrogen

CU Malaysia participated in the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference & Exhibition (APGH) 2026 as a sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to advancing both the growth and credibility of the green hydrogen industry. The event brought together policymakers, investors, technology providers and certification bodies from across the region to accelerate the development of a more sustainable hydrogen economy.

As part of the conference programme, Wan Muqtadir Wan Abdul Fatah, General Manager (Certification) of CU Malaysia, delivered a technical session titled “Building Green Hydrogen Credibility Through Certification.” His message was clear and resonant: while technology may power the hydrogen economy, it is trust that will ultimately sustain it.

Building Trust Beyond Production

In his address, Wan Muqtadir distilled the industry’s challenge into a simple but powerful truth: Technology alone will not build the ecosystem; trust will.

He noted that although advances in production technologies continue to gain pace, they are only one part of the equation.

“The success of the hydrogen economy will ultimately depend not just on how much hydrogen is produced, but on how credibly its green attributes can be demonstrated,” he said.

That distinction is becoming increasingly critical. As global momentum around hydrogen intensifies, scrutiny is rising from regulators, investors and end users alike. Market participants are demanding more than ambition; they expect verifiable proof that hydrogen production meets defined sustainability and emissions criteria. This shift is rapidly moving the conversation from what can be produced to what can be proven.

The Strategic Role of Certification

Against this backdrop, certification is emerging as a cornerstone of the hydrogen value chain. It is no longer just a compliance requirement, but a mechanism that translates technical capability into market trust.

Certification frameworks provide assurance that production, handling and distribution processes align with recognised standards. In doing so, they establish a common basis for credibility across markets and jurisdictions.

Wan Muqtadir highlighted several priorities for the industry:

  1. The need for harmonised certification frameworks to enable international trade and avoid market fragmentation
  2. The importance of transparent and consistent methodologies for emissions accounting and lifecycle assessments
  3. The growing demand for end-to-end traceability across the value chain
  4. The critical role of independent verification in safeguarding integrity and mitigating greenwashing risks

Together, these elements form what he described as a “trust infrastructure”, a system that anchors the hydrogen economy not just in innovation, but in confidence.

Enabling Market Growth Through Assurance

As hydrogen strategies take shape across the Asia Pacific, certification is set to play a defining role in aligning policy, investment and industry practices. Without widely accepted standards and robust verification mechanisms, scaling cross-border hydrogen trade will remain a significant challenge.

CU Malaysia’s participation at APGH 2026 reflects its broader commitment to supporting the energy transition through credible, internationally aligned certification services. In an emerging market where trust is fast becoming the true currency, these assurance mechanisms will be critical in unlocking long-term growth.

Strengthening Industry Collaboration

Beyond the technical session, APGH 2026 served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, underscoring the importance of collective action in navigating the complexities of scaling green hydrogen.

CU Malaysia’s presence reinforces its role as a partner in advancing sustainability and strengthening confidence in emerging energy markets. As the hydrogen economy evolves, the organisation remains focused on helping industry players move beyond ambition and deliver outcomes that are not only innovative, but verifiable and trusted.
